What is at stake concerning the EU integration of Serbia? Whereas reforms have been launched, Western Balkans being part of the EU, there is a disturbing lack of democracy in Serbia, which was increased by the Covid-19 crisis, as Igor Bandović, director of the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, underlines it. The demonstrations that took place in the country show the need for more transparency, democracy and regulation. In this context, the expectations are high during the French presidency of the EU Council in the sense that it could represent a perfect time to the EU to reengage in the region.
